Does the location of my home on its site affect which passive solar strategies can be used?

Yes. Ideally, buildings should be constructed with a long east-west axis with the south face being no more than 30° from due south. However, existing homes that are not ideally situated on a site may benefit from passive solar by retrofitting strategies, such as placing more windows on the southern orientation of the house.
