Stock options are a type of security that gives the owner the right to buy or sell a certain number of shares of stock (generally 100) at a specified price during a specified time period. Stock options are often used as a form of compensation for employees of for-profit corporations and can serve as an incentive for the workforce to do their best to grow the company.
