If logs are infested with bark beetles, are there treatment methods to prevent beetles from spreading into the surrounding forest?

Yes. Chipping or debarking logs while live beetles are in the wood will prevent the larvae and pupae from completing their life cycle. Adults in the wood could fly away as the wood is being chipped or debarked but due to their low vigor and poor flying ability this is unlikely. Rapid drying of the cambium region of logs reduces their host suitability. Storing infested logs underwater will kill bark beetles. Infested logs can also be burned.
