This depends upon how quickly the cambium in the logs dry out and what time of year the trees were felled. In general, it will take at least a season for the logs to dry out sufficiently. However, if the trees are felled in the late fall through early winter and the weather is sufficiently cold and/or moist the logs could be viable in early spring when bark beetles emerge from their overwintering sites. Another factor to consider is whether the logs are exposed to direct sunlight. Sunlight can hasten the drying of the logs.
