To test the hygienic behavior of honey bee colonies, can I use dry ice (CO2) to fill the tube instead of liquid nitrogen.

We did try using dry ice to freeze-kill brood for the hygienic behavior assay. We found the dry ice needed to be in contact with the brood for at least 30 minutes to ensure the brood would be killed. That length of time was not practical, so we moved to using liquid N2, which is much quicker.
