I have been conservator for my recently deceased mother for six years. I want to distribute her assets. I need to be appointed executor for her estate. Where can I find the forms to be appointed executor?

You need to check with the office that handles probate and estate distribution issues in the county where your late mother lived. In many states, this is called a surrogate's office. If you are unsure of where to go, ask a local attorney or the 211 (human services information call number) office in that area.

In order to be an executor of someone's estate, however, you must have been named as such in their will. If your mother did not have a will when she died, the court may decide to appoint you to settle her financial affairs with the title of administrator.
