The British author Virginia Woolf once said, "One cannot think well ... if one has not dined well." Woolf was correct. To have proper brain function, we have to have a healthy diet. Research shows that children do better on tests if they have eaten a healthy breakfast. Adults function better throughout the day when they have eaten properly. You may see lists of the "top five brain foods" or "best brain foods." However, the best medicine for your brain is a diet that is high in fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, whole grains, fish (especially fatty fish such as salmon), and lean meats and low in sugar, highly processed foods, and high-fat fast food.
