I have a co-worker who drinks insane amounts of soda like Coca-Cola® every day. He always talks about stopping, but he says every time he tries to, he always gets headaches or gets in a bad mood. What is the best way to quit drinking soda without the mental side effects?

Kicking the soda habit can be hard. One of the reasons is due to the caffeine it contains. It is possible that caffeine withdrawal is causing your friend’s headache and bad mood. The best advice to give your friend would be try to cut back slowly. Tell him to write down every time he drinks a soda. Once he has written down his list, have him try to replace two or three drinks a day with water. Remind him that diet soft drinks are a great way to cut down on sugar but that they can still contain caffeine. Eventually, his body will get to the point where it does not feel it needs so much caffeine and/or sugar.
