Horses Home

I have a neighbor who put up a speaker next to my horse barn. It was attached to a rodent repeller at 105 decimals and an amplifer which made it louder, and he blasted it at my horses. Is there any research which would pertain to what level of sound would cause horses agitation, aggravation, and stress?

Horses do hear in a wider frequency range compared to humans. Horses have a lower end sensitivity to sounds, responding to sounds as low as 7 decibels. We are not aware of any research indicating what upper decibel limit results in any agitation, aggression, and/or stress. Your local veterinarian may be able to assist you, especially if you are noticing these behaviors.

If you have additional concerns related to the legal use of this equipment, contact your local government or zoning commissioner.
