My horse stands in the snow for hours. It seems she is losing weight although she eats and drinks water.

It is a little difficult to answer this question without knowing more about the situation. Is this a young or old horse? Is she out with other horses, and is she at the lower end of the pecking order? It sounds as though she has the option of getting out of the snow but doesn't choose to. That is actually O.K., as some horses are just more comfortable "out" as opposed to "in." It is good that she is eating and drinking, but she may lose some weight from the increased energy needed to stay warm. You might try increasing her feed if you haven't done so already, and possibly adding some calories in the form of fat (½-cup corn oil, for example). A blanket will also help. If she continues to lose weight, a veterinary exam may be in order, but don't be too concerned about her standing outside.
