Typically, burning bush is pruned immediately after the worst of winter is over in February or March. In that it is considered a single spring flush grower, the flowers are insignificant, and fruit is not desirable, pruning during the spring flowering period is considered acceptable. On occasion, Euonymus alatus (burning bush) is hedged and may require a second pruning if the spring flush was missed.
