Certain types of human foods can be dangerous and even deadly for our companion animals. The nutrition experts at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center have created a list of the top toxic human foods to avoid feeding our pets. These include:
* Alcoholic beverages
* Avocado
* Chocolate (all forms)
* Coffee (all forms)
* Fatty foods
* Macadamia nuts
* Moldy or spoiled foods
* Onions, onion powder
* Raisins and grapes
* Salt
* Yeast dough
* Garlic
* Products sweetened with xylitol

For more detailed information about why these foods are toxic to our companion animals, visit ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center's section on "people foods."

In addition, you want to avoid high-calorie, high-fat, or high-carbohydrate human foods to decrease the risk of obesity from consuming too many calories. Most dogs can meet all their nutritional needs with dog food.

This information was provided in part by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center and can be found at ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.
