There are a wide variety of ways to reduce energy consumption on the farm. Some things might be as simple as turning off lights when not in use, while others might involve developing new strategies for your operation. For field operations, energy consumption can be reduced by properly matching implements to the tractor size, using techniques such as gearing up and throttling down, and reducing the number of passes you generally take across a field such as in no-till farming.
Motors for pumping water and moving air for ventilation and refrigeration can be evaluated to make sure they are being used the most efficiently.
The opportunities for reducing energy to save money or natural resources are as varied as the types of farm operations.
