What is a safe wind speed to carry out a prescribed fire?

In most cases the recommended wind speeds are from 4 to 15 mph, but remember each burn unit is different and specific a fire plan and prescription should be written for each one. There are burn units that can be safely burned with wind speeds greater that these, while some should be burned with as minimum wind as possible.
