Personal safety should the main primary concern on every prescribed burn. Each person should wear clothing that is safe and practical. Personnel can wear flame resistant clothing designed for wildland fires such as Nomex or Indura Cotton, but if this is not available clothing made of 100% natural fibers (i.e. cotton) are adequate. Shirts should be long sleeve and pants should be full length as well. These items need to be free of any rips, tears or holes. Comfortable all leather boots should be worn; lace up is preferred for support. Some type of head covering such as a hat needs to be worn to protect your hair from falling embers or a helmet if falling debris could be a problem. All leather gloves should be worn as well.
