Prescribed fires reduce, or eliminate, fuels that might burn during a wildfire. This is a temporary effect that may last two years or 200 years depending on the site. Areas that have frequent prescribed fires generally have infrequent catastrophic wildfires. Thus, prescribed fires are a good tool to limit damage from wildfires.
