As cattle producers, we always try to manage cattle so that they don't get sick. The reality is that cattle do get sick, even if we do our best to manage them so that they don't. Cattle producers don't like to use medicines or medicated feeds if at all possible because it costs. They also understand that if cattle are sick, they need to treat them. It would be important to make sure you have made the right diagnosis, so you may need to consult your veterinarian. When using medicated feeds, always follow label directions. There is no "extra label" use of medicated feeds. Everything you need to know and follow is on the label. The only con is if you do not follow label directions and you jeopardize the safety of the meat because of a residue issue. The pro is that sick cattle are treated and feel better, perform better, and go on to be productive cattle.
