You may want to try supplements that say they are “odorless” on their labels. Another way to potentially avoid these symptoms is to try different brands until you find the one that reduces or eliminates this reaction for you. For example, using a supplement in time-released capsules may help reduce these side effects. Other suggestions to avoid this problem include:
• Take your supplements throughout the day rather than all at once;
• Take your supplements right before a meal so that the food helps to cover up the fishy taste/aftertaste;
• Take your supplements just before going to sleep so that you don’t notice any aftertaste or burping that occurs;
• Start with only one fish oil capsule per day, and gradually increase the number you take until you reach the desired dosage; and perhaps,
• Keep your fish oil supplements in the freezer until you take them (but check the manufacturer’s recommendation first about storing them).
