How do I relieve grapevines of blackleaf symptoms?

Last Updated: March 22, 2011

Although originally thought to be caused by potassium deficiency, recent research has shown that a combination of water stress and high UV-B radiation is the major cause of blackleaf in grapes. To prevent blackleaf, do not add excess potassium, do not stress your grape vines early in the season, and do ensure that you have an adequate canopy by not pruning excessively.
