There are primarily four types of grapes that are grown in the U.S. and the leaves on all are edible. The vinifera or European grape species is the one that is used primarily for cooking. Concentrate on early pesticide sprays and then slack off for several weeks before harvesting the leaves. Observe the pre-harvest interval for the pesticides that you use for the leaves. Select tender leaves close to the shoot tip that have grown recently that do not have pesticide residues in the late May and June time period.
