Description:
There will be a $40 fee collected the first day of the class (check payable to Purdue University). The class will meet from 9 am to 4 pm at the Purdue bee lab. To reserve a spot, email Greg Hunt (ghunt@purdue.edu). Registration will probably be limited to 30. The first day will consist of discussion, slides and video presentation, and some field work. We will graft the second day and observe the results of our grafts on the third day during the ISBA/IBA meeting, which is also at the Purdue bee lab. We are going to teach people basically what they need to know about how to raise queen bees using the grafting technique – how to set up and maintain queenless starter hives and swarm boxes, how to transfer (graft) the larvae and how to get the queens successfully mated. This is for people who already know how to keep bees and are serious about wanting to raise their own queens. Joint IBA and ISBA Field Day at the Purdue Bee Lab June 20 Registration for the field day will be $20 from 8:00 to 8:30, and will include lunch. Activities will consist mainly of practical workshops outdoors with the bees and under the tent. Come meet your fellow Indiana beekeepers and have fun! We have plenty of bees. Bring your own beekeeping equipment if you have them. If you don’t, borrow ours. More info here: http://www.entm.purdue.edu/beehive/events.html
