Description:
This workshop is for dairy producers, their employees, and interested dairy industry personnel. Herds studied with the Penn State Profitability Assessment Dairy Tool demonstrate that reproductive performance is often the most common bottleneck to profitability on a dairy. Reproductive performance does impact the bulk tank. Longer days open and extended calving intervals lead to fewer days of peak milk production. Participants will learn how to read and understand reproductive performance records, identify the key signs, methods, and aids of heat detection, and understand how heat synchronization programs work. This is “hands-on” training with a limit of 20 people. You will learn the following at this workshop: Reproductive measures and the economics of reproductive efficiency; Methods to improve your heat detection; Reproductive anatomy - You will examine reproductive tracts to learn the importance of each structure, as well as semen placement; and Synchronization protocols, including the benefits of following them. Hours: 9:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time - 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Registration: $30 per person. Presented by Penn State Dairy Alliance.
