About the webinar: Agriculture is responsible for about 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with most of that associated with livestock operations and manure management. Organic farms have many choices about equipment and inputs, manure management and composting, and cover crops and crop rotations, that can significantly affect these environmental impacts. This webinar, by Tom Richard and Gustavo Camargo of Penn State University, will review the greenhouse gas emissions associated with dairy system and suggest alternative strategies for organic dairies.

About the presenters: Tom Richard is the Director of Penn State’s Institutes for Energy and the Environment (PSIEE) and an Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering. His primary research thrust is the development of sustainable strategies for biomass feedstock supply.

Gustavo Camargo is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Penn State. His research focuses on energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in crop and livestock agroecosystems. He has consulted on these topics for both the private sector and USDA.
