It is the mission of Extension to ensure that programming is available to all regardless of their race or ethnicity. Most states use tools to capture demographic data of their program participants, thus determining whether members of racially and ethnically diverse groups are having opportunities to learn from Extension Programs. One such tool may be found at http://extension.missouri.edu/staff/diversity/VolDemoInfo.html. Once contact information is gathered for each program, it may be analyzed against potential audiences to determine whether underserved audiences are being reached. Along with this tool, some states use a "pull down menu" or checklist to determine which conditions might be observed to make programs more attractive to diverse audiences. A sample list may be found at http://extension.missouri.edu/webapps/CEPlan.aspx. This list was developed through an inquiry process with diverse audiences. Such a list could be used to develop an instrument that may be used to assess conditions in Extension programs that help to address the needs of diverse audiences.
