What is a Personal Emergency Response System?

Many types of personal alarms may help support independent living. The basic parts of these alarm systems, called personal emergency response systems (PERS), include the following: (1) a transmitter carried by the user or worn on a neck pendant or wristband; (2) a receiver connected to a telephone; and (3) a monitoring center.
