Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

I have two-year-old peach, pear, and plum trees, and all are putting out leaves. Is it too late to prune them, and what do I feed them and how often? I live in Texas.

It is actually best to prune at bud break when new growth is being produced in the spring; the wounds will immediately begin to heal over because the tree is in an active state of growth. Feed them four times a year: early March, April, May, and June. Use one cup of nitrogen fertilizer placed 12 to 18 inches away from the trunk. Water thoroughly after you make the application.
