There are many different irises, including bearded, beardless, Louisiana, Siberian, and Japanese. The bearded and beardless are quite happy in well-drained soil that is on the dry side. The Louisiana, Siberian, and Japanese varieties are much more water-loving. Check where you bought the plants and find out what they are and what growing conditions they prefer. Or you can continue with your current care if they seem happy with it.
