No chemicals are currently cleared for homeowner control of sweet potato weevils (Cylas formicarius elegantulus). The best methods of preventing weevil damage in sweet potatoes are to use certified weevil-free sweet potato slips, to rotate plantings, and to remove all crop residue and weeds that might serve as winter hosts for the weevil.
