Sclerotia (the plural of sclerotium) are vegetative, resting (dormant), food-storage bodies in certain higher fungi, composed of a compact mass of indurated (hardened) mycelia (fungal strands).

The soil-borne fungus Sclerotium rolfsii also known as "southern wilt" and "southern stem rot" is a serious and frequent disease of many vegetable crops. This fungus reproduces and over winters as sclerotia.
