I have some large hardy hibiscus plants. How do I, or can I, divide these plants?

A hibiscus root system can be divided to form additional plants. It is best done in the fall or winter. Dig up the plants and make sure that each division has as many fleshy roots attached to the crown-like structure (to which the fleshy roots are attached) as possible. A part of this "crown" must be present to re-initiate vegetative growth or sprouting of the divisions will not occur.
