When caging tomatoes, how large should the cage be?

Last Updated: May 01, 2011

The diameter of the cage should be at least 18 to 20 inches. Smaller cages often restrict plant growth and reduce yields. The height of the cage will vary, but generally, two to five feet is sufficient for the recommended varieties. If vining types, such as Better Boy or Homestead, are used, a cage five feet in height is preferred.
