Can grass clippings be used for compost?

Yes, dried clippings can be added directly to the garden. Green clippings should be added to the compost pile and allowed to decompose. Mix with equal amounts of shredded leaves, straw, or hay in a layering manner.

You should avoid collecting grass clippings from lawns treated with pesticides to avoid contamination of your garden crop.
