My mother says her zinnias always get powdery mildew in late summer which makes the bottom half of the plants ugly. How can I keep all this from happening?

Zinnias (most cultivars) are prone to getting powdery mildew when planted in less than full sun or when planted in an area that does not have good air circulation. The air circulation is also affected by planting the zinnias too close together. You can apply fungicides to help control the powdery mildew. Contact your local Cooperative Extension Service office for recommendations.
