Description:
Learn GIS basics and how to use ArcGIS 10 in a hands-on learning environment! This course is useful for people who have no prior GIS experience, but would like to become familiar with GIS concepts and basic techniques. The central goal of this workshop is to provide participants with the skills to manipulate GIS maps to answer commonly asked issues in community planning. Activities focus on the use of ArcGIS 10 to get information from GIS data layers, answer basic geospatial questions and manipulate attribute data. Each participant receives their own detailed step-by-step manual to use as a reference after the course is over.

General topics:
* GIS concepts * Exploring GIS maps * ArcGIS 10

Participants will learn to:
* query data * create buffers * use basic geoprocessing tools * manipulate attribute tables: add fields, calculate values * symbolize GIS data * import data into ArcGIS 10
