Litter

Mammals: A litter is the number of young brought forth by a multiparous animal at one birth - For example, the multiple offspring born during the same farrowing, normally 8 to 12 pigs. . Another example, example, a typical number of kittens born to a female cat at one time would be a litter of 4-5 kittens.

Litter also refers to the material used for absorption of waste products from companion animals, most commonly cats. Most litters are based on clay, but there are also alternative substrates available such as wood, paper, and grains.
