Although some pesticides are not labeled as "restricted use" (i.e., only licensed professionals may apply them), they do require specialized equipment to correctly apply them. For instance, according to label directions of Sevin® SL, the diluted pesticide must be applied to the entire tree trunk from the soil level up until the trunk diameter is less than 5 inches. Few homeowners have the equipment needed to make this application safely. It is our recommendation to hire a certified professional pesticide applicator. They are trained in proper handling of pesticides, have the proper equipment, are insured and bonded, and are aware of the consequences for misuse of pesticides. These applicators should also be able to provide you with a product label and material safety data sheet (MSDS) upon request.
