Some invasive species that have caused major damage include garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata), buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA; Adelges tsugae), and Asian longhorned beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis) in the northeastern states; the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis) in forests of the northern and central United States; and sudden oak death (Phytophthora ramorum) in northern California.
