We can't recommend specific veterinarians, but you should ask your regular veterinarian for a referral to a specialist. He or she would have the most knowledge of who has done a good job for them in the past. It is a good idea to meet with the referral vet before surgery and ask any questions that you have about surgical options, prognosis, recovery, and cost before scheduling the surgery. Just as in human medicine, you may want to get a second opinion before proceeding. Professionals should not have a problem with that.

The American College of Veterinary Surgeons has a website that you may find useful (www.acvs.org/AnimalOwners/WhatisaBoardCertifiedSurgeon/) The site has a search function for finding a board-certified surgeon with an orthopedic interest and experience in your area. Please note that there are talented and experienced veterinary surgeons who are not board certified, but board certification is one way to narrow the field.
