Diabetes mellitus is fairly common in dogs and cats. It cannot be cured, but it can be controlled. It is important to work with your vet to develop a management plan to minimize the symptoms and help ensure that your dog has a full and healthy life. Most dogs with diabetes will need insulin injections, glucose monitoring, weight management, and a controlled diet. While it can initially be a little overwhelming and may take a little while to stabilize your dog's condition, most pets with diabetes do quite well.
