Whole Village Family Resource Center, Plymouth, NH open in google maps

October 18, 2011 at 9:00 AM EDT

Description:
GPS Basics covers the basics of GPS technology, how to collect waypoints and how to navigate to points you have collected. Introductory presentations will explain the technology behind GPS, but most of the workshop will be spent outside putting handheld GPS receivers through their paces.

Instruction will be based on the provided handheld GPS units (Garmin GPS 76). This ensures consistency of instruction and allows us to cover all workshop materials in the time provided. If participants bring their own units to the workshop, the instructors will help translate the activities to these units as time allows. Keep in mind that the general concepts of GPS will be useful no matter what GPS unit you own, and that the instructor will not be familiar with all GPS units.

General topics:
* basic GPS * GPS navigation * GPS data collection

Participants will learn to:
* operate Garmin 76 GPS units * navigate using handheld GPS units * collect waypoints using handheld GPS units
