The anthurium whitefly (Aleurotulus anthuricola) lays its eggs in a circular pattern in the leaf sheaths. When the eggs hatch, the nymphs are clear and gradually darken until they are almost black. When they pupate, they become black with a white fringe of powdery wax. Finally, the adults are very similar to other white flies found in Hawaii. They secrete the white, powdery wax found over the base of the plant.
