Do aquaculture products have mercury or PCBs?

Last Updated: June 14, 2011

View as web page

Any product that contains fish meal as an ingredient may contain mercury or PCBs since this product is sourced directly from the ocean. Most aquaculture feeds do in fact contain fish meal as one of the ingredients, though any levels of PCBs and/or mercury that do find their way into finished aquaculture products are well below the thresholds set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA has detailed information available on its website about both mercury and PCBs in seafood.
