Most states have between four and ten permits or licenses required to be involved in aquaculture. The permits are in place to regulate what species you can raise, how much water you use or discharge, or how you market/process your fish, among other things. Be sure to contact the proper state authorities in your state before conducting aquaculture, typically the Department of Agriculture or Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
