What can be done to protect water from pesticide contamination?

Preventing a substance from entering a water source in the first place is the best protection. Many practices are recommended to prevent water contamination. For example, storing and disposing of pesticides properly, using pesticides only when needed, using backflow devices, and implementing crop rotation are all practices that help prevent water contamination.
