University of Maine Cooperative Extension, in conjunction with Efficiency Maine and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, will offer a three free webinars Aug. 30 on reducing heating and other energy costs in homes and apartments. Presenters are Extension educators Donna Coffin and Kathy Hopkins, who will provide a demonstration on how to make a window shutter from cardboard, aluminum foils and duct tape, in addition to a door draft stopper from fabric and foam pipe insulation. Discussion also will cover supplemental home heating methods, insulation materials and the importance of regular maintenance of home heating systems.
