Description: University of Maine Cooperative Extension, in conjunction with Efficiency Maine and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, will offer a three free webinars Aug. 30 on reducing heating and other energy costs in homes and apartments.
Presenters are Extension educators Donna Coffin and Kathy Hopkins, who will provide a demonstration on how to make a window shutter from cardboard, aluminum foils and duct tape, in addition to a door draft stopper from fabric and foam pipe insulation.
Discussion also will cover supplemental home heating methods, insulation materials and the importance of regular maintenance of home heating systems. An overview of alternative energy sources and tax incentives will round out the three hour-long programs.
