Description: A familiar event to Tennessee cattle producers, this year’s annual Northeast Tennessee Beef Expo has been scheduled for October 13 at the University of Tennessee’s AgResearch and Education Center at Greeneville.
Rob Ellis, director of UT’s Greeneville Center, expects Expo visitors to find the event both informative and enjoyable. “We’re offering a balanced program that should directly benefit producers,” he said.
Top attractions for the event include forage equipment demonstrations and UT experts speaking on topics of vital interest to producers struggling to keep their operations profitable. Discussion topics include health issues for beef calves, crossbreeding, and using scales to add profitability. A set of Tru-Test scales will be awarded to the Expo visitor who most closely estimates the weight of a group of calves, hay bales, and the protein and TDN level of a bale of hay.
An added event on the program is a producer-led panel that will discuss the process of taking cattle from farm to market.
Registration and a trade show will begin at 7:30 a.m. The cost to attend the day-long program is $10, which includes a steak luncheon. Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture Julius Johnson, who is also a cattle producer, will be the luncheon speaker. Participants are asked to pre-register with a local UT Extension office by Friday, September 23.
The Northeast Tennessee Beef Expo is an annual presentation of UT Extension and UT AgResearch. Its purpose is to help cattle producers enhance the efficiency of their operations to make them more profitable.
