Bear in mind that it takes a long time to build an entrepreneurially based economy. Do not get discouraged when the results you expect do not happen overnight. The National Center for Small Communities (NCSC) identified best practices for communities receiving its Grassroots Rural Entrepreneurship Award. The NCSC writes that all of the communities winning the award had tried a number of different strategies to promote entrepreneurship as a rural development strategy. Eventually, each community ended up with a unique mix of strategies and solutions. The mix depended on the needs and conditions of the communities and their businesses. The NCSC recommends that community leaders work with a variety of options. For more information about this interesting report, go to www.smallcommunities.org/ncsc/Kauffman/BestPractices.pdf
