Most rangelands are managed under the principles of "multiple-use". This means that several uses or values of rangelands are managed simultaneously with care to avoid overuse or destruction of natural resources. Examples of the many uses of rangeland include: livestock grazing, recreation, mining, forestry, wildlife habitat, energy production and water production. Not every use is expected to occur on every acre at the same time. Public and private rangelands often have different management objectives and priorities for mixes of uses.
