What is Centipedegrass?

Turfgrass Quick Facts: Centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack.)


Centipedegrass is a low growing sod forming warm season grass native to China. It is commonly planted in the coastal plains and southeastern U.S.

Centipedegrass Characteristics

  • Slow growing
  • Can be weedy
  • Low maintenance
  • Low fertility requirements
  • Best in low pH soils
  • Poor wear tolerance
  • Not cold tolerant
  • Needs irrigation during drought
