A young military couple just starting out would like to purchase new furniture. They’ve heard from friends that moving all the time just bangs up your furniture and so it is not a good idea to spend a lot for high-quality pieces. Any tips to help out?

One of the fun parts of military life is moving to new places and getting to see different parts of the country or the world and making new friends. Unfortunately, one of the least fun parts of military life is moving to new places on a frequent basis and the wear and tear it can put on furniture and other household goods when they go in and out of moving trucks and storage on a regular basis.

For this reason, it may be wise for service members to buy less expensive furniture that they won’t be as concerned about if it gets banged up (or lost) during a move. Low prices on good-quality items can often be found at military and civilian thrift stores, garage sales, and flea markets. Each military family’s budget and personal values will determine their best purchasing options.
